Description
The California Nebula is an iconic deep-sky object that lies in the Orion arm of our Galaxy, in the constellation of Perseus, approx. 1,000 light years away from Earth. It takes its name from its resemblance in shape to the State of California, in the US. It is a large but faint emission nebula: a massive cloud of gas and dust, mainly composed of hydrogen atoms.
